Charles C. Antes, 82, of Landenberg, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at the LifeCare Hospital, West Chester.
He was the husband of Eleanor Knott Antes, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Ford Antes.
Charles graduated from Kennett High School, Class of 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War as an engineer.
He was retired from Longwood Gardens, where he was employed as an arborist for 32 years.
Charles enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, tying his own flies and gardening.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Rebecca A. Olinger and her husband, Gary A., of Coatesville, and Carla L. Brown and her husband, Harold D., of Oxford; six grandchildren, Nathan, Lauren, Rachel and David Olinger, and Eric and Jared Brown; one great-granddaughter, Kalissa Kaufman; and a sister, Edria Byler of Exton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Miller and Irene Copeland; and three brothers, Joseph, Earl and Ernest Antes.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 12, at the Edward L. Collins Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 86 Pine St., Oxford, where friends may call from 11 to noon.
Interment with full military honors will be in Oxford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kennett Square Building Fund, 415 W. State St. Kennett Square, PA 19348.
